Consider removing pandas as a dependency

Most functions in this package have been crafted carefully as to avoid relying on pandas. The aim is to be agnostic of whether the user uses pandas or polars and thus only rely on numpy. The reason for this is that more users are switching from pandas to polars for speed improvements.

Maybe it's ok to have it as a dependency, but make sure that most functions do not use it.
