Possible solution (Extracted from existing issue, might be incorrect; please verify carefully)

Solution 1:

The 2.0.81 version of Azure CLI distributed by the official Ubuntu repository is not maintained by Microsoft. Please follow https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cli/azure/install-azure-cli-linux?pivots=apt to install Azure CLI. It will add Microsoft's Linux repository (https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/azure-cli/) to apt's source list and allow you to install the latest version of Azure CLI.

Solution 2:

Installing the latest version of 'az cli' fixed the issue. This was not initially obvious, as apt reported that the latest version was being used (known issue according to Azure website).
