Create Comprehensive Test Suite for gitflow Scripts Refactor

This issue tracks the creation of a comprehensive Test Suite as the first major step in refactoring the gitflow scripts. This Parent Issue will organize progress and link related sub-issues for both BDD and TDD test development.

Resources and context:

• Refer to the Project Status and Next Steps section for modernization goals and testing priorities.
• The legacy code is frozen on legacy-main and legacy-development branches.
• All contributions for architecture and test suite creation are welcome; see the Contributing section.

Sub-issues:

• BDD tests written for ShellSpec
• TDD tests written for Bats
