Ad-hoc testing environments

Idea:

• typical development is local only
• one-off testing environments could be deployed ad-hoc as needed (automatically at PR creation?)

Started going for it with the codespaces strategy.... initial impressions:

• nice that it is integrated right into github
• very slow to spin up a new codespace... maybe this could be mitigated with "prebuilds"

I was able to get pre-builds to work pretty well. With a pre-build properly configured, it only takes about 2-3 minutes to get a new dev environment up and running.

Now I'm looking into the best way to make it simple to get a URL for the frontend once the environment is up.
