This folder contains examples for various functionalities of FAModel. These examples are designed to help users get acquainted with the package and how it can be used. The sample .yaml files may also be used as templates for the user's own floating array ontologies. The examples are described below:
The numbered example folders (01-08) contain small isolated examples showing ontologies and driver files for basic functionalities. Within each folder, a number of sub-functionalities are shown individually. Currently, only the 01-03 example folders are developed, as this is a work in progress. The numbered example folders are as follows:
- 01_Visualization : 2D and 3D plotting of various components and array information
- 02_Mooring_Analysis_MoorPy : Run and analyze mooring and cable simulations
- 03_Frequency_Domain_Analysis_RAFT : Run and analyze floating platform/ floating wind simulations
- 04_Geography : Load and set up geographical information such as soils, bathymetry, lease coordinates, etc
- 05_Anchor_Capacity_and_Sizing : Calculate anchor capacity and size anchors to meet safety requirements
- 06_Wakes_Analysis_FLORIS : Run and analyze wind turbine wake simulations
- 07_Cost_Analysis : Calculate total cost of array components, output spreadsheet breakdown of costs
- 08_Cable_Rerouting : Reroute intra-array cables around mooring lines and anchors
- 09_Failure_Analysis : Run a failure analysis of the array
This example shows how to make an FAModel project from a yaml file. The sample shows various possibilities for mooring and anchoring including shared moorings and shared anchors. It also shows some functionalities of FAModel including:
- integration with MoorPy
- integration with RAFT
- integration with FLORIS for AEP calculations
- adding marine growth to moorings and cables
- calculating capacity, loads, and safety factors on an anchor
- determining the watch circle of a platform, with maximum tensions and minimum safety factors for all mooring lines and cables attached to the platform
- plotting the 2d plan view of a farm, including:
- bathymetry
- boundaries
- mooring lines, cables (including routing), platforms, and substations
- motion envelopes for mooring lines and platforms
- plotting the 3d view of a farm, including:
- bathymetry
- boundaries
- mooring lines, platforms, and substations
- dynamic cables
- static cables, including burial depth and routing
This example shows how to easily make a uniform array from a yaml file, without requiring the input of the exact locations for each turbine.
This example shows how to "copy" a platform object and its connected moorings and anchors, and reposition the copied platform to the location of your choice.
This example shows how to create an empty project object and then add in a platform object and its connected moorings and anchors from a moorpy system (or MoorDyn file).
This example shows how to make an FAModel project with platforms, anchors, and mooring lines without a yaml file.
There are many ways to manually fill in a project class with array components and site information. In this case, site information is loaded in from files, and a platform, moorings, and anchors are loaded in from a moorpy array (which comes from a MoorDyn file). Further platforms are added by using the duplicate() function to "copy" the platform and associated moorings and anchors and place in a specific location.
This example calculates the anchor capacity for each different type of anchor, determines the load on the anchor, and then determines the safety factor. This is provided to show an example of what information is required for each anchor type, and how results can differ for different anchor types.
