Math expressions shouldn't include full stop periods

We have a lot of math expressions that include the period at the end of a sentence on them. We should avoid doing this because it doesn't work well with translations.

Example of this in #4748

Depending on the language, the order of the phrases is different and the math expressions usually change their position on a sentence. When that happens, the period is moved around with the math expression.

I think we are doing the same for links in some cases, so we should talk about what to do with those too

@arnaucasau is this why the German translation got messed up?

I'm wondering about equations that are offset with $$... if they are technically part of a sentence but the period is placed outside the $$, a period at the end might wrap on its own, which we would prefer not to happen. See for example the way it is done here:

000 \oplus 000 = 000, \quad
000 \oplus 111 = 111, \quad
111 \oplus 000 = 111, \quad
111 \oplus 111 = 000.
$$

Does this have the same risk of confusing the machine translation?

Yep, exactly. We were sending a paragraph to translate without any punctuation mark, and the pipeline wasn't able to fully understand it 😓

We will only care about inline math expressions. Block expressions are entirely skipped by our pipeline, and we don't have any way of linking the periods with the previous or following paragraphs at the moment. For now we will keep them as-is with the periods inside the expression

Is there any concern about the alt-text for images? They often have a period right before the closing bracket, but there is no other place to put the period.

If alt-text will break translations, then we will probably need to leave off final punctuation.
