Can't see OSD at all

No matter what settings I use (small, medium, or large), the Volume slider is completely gone. I downloaded and installed this to get rid of the extra media information on the side, and simply wanted to see the volume up and down slider. Does this app allow for that? I don't see any difference in the various sizes. It just seems to completely remove the volume controls.
