Symptoms

App crashes on launch when using anything newer than Proton 8.0-5.

Reproduction

Use anything newer than Proton 8.0-5 and the app will crash, also it can be fixed by disabling NVAPI (app has DLSS support, although you need a license to have access to it) with the PROTON_DISABLE_NVAPI=1 env var.

Another bug I found is that if you use any proton version newer than Proton 8.0-5 with the NVAPI workaround the app will have a memory leak until the system gets OOM.

As you can see the app is using around 14GB of RAM but started at around 3GB

To reproduce this you only need to use Proton Experimental and 'PROTON_DISABLE_NVAPI=1' as an env var and let the app running in the background.

after extensive testing (two people running the app for more than 48 hours combined), on the proton 10 beta 2 and proton GE 10-10 and using the PROTON_USE_WOW64 env var seems to fix the mem leak, without it the mem leak persist so it probably is a regression on a 32bit library/dll.

Adding some info here. I can confirm the memory leak on Proton Experimental and CachyOS. There are other issues, but running with the following launch options fixes generally everything except for the memory leak, and being unable to use the maximize button on the Warudo editor:
obs-gamecapture PROTON_DISABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 %command% --disable-warudo-editor-electron-sandbox

Per a tip from the discord, I tried on Proton 8.0-5, and on this version there is no memory leak. So it seems like some sort of regression with Experimental, and versions above 8.0-5

There are multiple issues here. All are fixed by this build (edit: build had a patch conflict, trying again, should be done in ~2.5h).

All multi-threaded Unity apps are affected by the "random sudden memory leaks" issue that also affected VNyan / #9430, although some apps are disproportionately more likely than others to hit the race. I left a comment on that issue pointing at the fix patches.

Warudo has two additional issues (the crash and a "slow" memory leak), those are worked around by #9588.
