In-car Wifi usage

I know there we some questions about using in-car wifi.
I've got an Q7 which provides the Wifi hotspot but the Android Auto is USB only. Trying to find a solution that would provide AA via WIfi and will provide internet access at the same time. I know the phone would happily use mobile network while connected to the wifi with no internet access but in the car has SIM with roaming enabled (+lots of data) and I would rather stick to it.

so the questions are:

1. If aa-proxy connects to the car's Wifi as a client, would AA still work?
2. If not, The RPi Zero 2W can act as Wifi Client and AP at the same time (in theory), did anyone try using it as a router (simple NAT)
   I know performance will be very limited as it will use the same channel and 2.4GHz for both but perhaps will be good enough.
3. If not - perhaps we can use additional dongle (5Ghz) to provide AP and use the internal RPi as the client?

Did anyone tried one of above?

Hi,
Device's WiFi is utilized mainly for providing wireless connection to the phone only for AA connection. Theoretically it might be possible to set up a virtual AP on the same radio, but it would definitely come with issues… first of all it would probably have to be on the same channel… and yeah, you can’t cheat physics - if that “other” Wi-Fi worked at all, Android Auto would likely suffer, and latency is the most important thing there. it could drop the Android Auto session while that’s happening…
Besides - we are using hostapd in AP mode so I am not even sure if a AP client is possible at the same time... depends probably on a broadcom drivers (if we're talking about raspberry)...

An extra dongle could be some kind of workaround, but you’d unfortunately have to handle it yourself - enable drivers to the kernel (if they exist in-kernel) and set up the whole configuration on your own. this is a pretty niche topic, so I’d rather not add it to the main project. it’s more of a custom, tailor-made solution.

And also... default gateway is disabled on the aa-proxy and I think that even if the raspberry itself has internet, it might not "pass" it to the Android phone. It might be Android Auto protocol limitation.
