Elements take up the name of a recalled preset as their name. This might be fine for many use cases, but it doesn't work well if we use for example many router elements acting as switches, where preset recalls the patch matrix states.
The trouble is, that "abusing" routers as switches like this easily leads to many routers being used. Many of them just simple 4x4 routers, that have no more than 3-5 stereo configurations - i.e. in 4 IN / 4 OUT configs with A, A & A, A & B, B, B & B B & A.... or let's also consider 4 IN / 2 OUT routing with just A, B, MUTE presets. This small and simple set of generic presets can be reused with any router element.
Now, with many routers like that, I would prefer to see a router name describing the "role" of the router, i.e. "Metering source", "Dry / FX", "Static splitter", "Speakers Direct / Patched", 'Headphones Direct / Patched" front and center...... and the generic 4 IN / 4 OUT -- A, 4 IN / 4 OUT -- B name of the recalled preset above / below the element role.
Describe the solution you'd like
- graph element has it's own name independent of preset name
- both name and preset name are displayed in all display configurations, except compact, which would ideally be split into two - Compact (Name) + Compact (Preset)
- elements without edited name should keep the default element name, i.e. Audio Router, instead of taking on the preset name as they do now, that would be confusing
Describe alternatives you've considered
- creating loads of presets with location specific name but same preset parameters
