Code of Conduct (Islamic Principles)

Our Pledge

We as members, contributors, and leaders pledge to make participation in our community a harassment-free and respectful experience for everyone, regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, race, or color.

Inspired by the Islamic principles of Adab (good manners) and Akhlaq (virtuous character), we pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to a welcoming, intellectually honest, and healthy community.

Our Standards

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The best among you are those who have the best manners and character." (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment for our community include:

  • Demonstrating empathy, kindness, and patience toward other people
  • Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
  • Offering Naseehah (sincere advice and constructive feedback) gracefully, and accepting it with humility
  • Speaking good or remaining silent, especially in moments of disagreement
  • Accepting responsibility and apologizing to those affected by our mistakes, and learning from the experience
  • Focusing on what is best for the overall community and project

Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

  • The use of obscene, foul, or sexualized language or imagery (Fahsha)
  • Trolling, insulting, name-calling, or derogatory comments (Sukhriyah)
  • Backbiting (Gheebah), slander (Buhtan), and personal or political attacks
  • Public or private harassment
  • Publishing others' private information, such as a physical or email address, without their explicit permission
  • Promoting or advocating for actions that directly contradict the moral and ethical boundaries of Islam
  • Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate or harmful in a professional setting

Enforcement Responsibilities

Community leaders are responsible for clarifying and enforcing our standards of acceptable behavior and will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behavior that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.

Community leaders have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all community spaces, and also applies when an individual is officially representing the community in public spaces.

Enforcement

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported to the community leaders responsible for enforcement at mnachawa@gmail.com. All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly, in accordance with the Islamic principles of justice ('Adl).

All community leaders are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident.
