Applet that shows Wi-Fi information

Not long ago, I used to work in an Apple MacBook machine running macOS and I had an app called WiFi Signal who shows various informations about the currently connected Wi-Fi network on the taskbar. Things like:

• SSID (Network name)
• MAC address
• Frequency (2.4GHz, 5GHz)
• Link Data Rate (Bps, Mbps, Gbps)
• Channel number
• Channel Width (20MHz, 40MHz, 160MHz)
• Signal strength (% or dBm)
• SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio, in dB)
• etc.

each item selectable by the user.

Now that I daily drive Mint and Cinnamon in that regard, it would be nice to have an applet that brings this functionality. There are several "Network Monitors" available but they all show throughput and/or data usage only, my idea is bringing the rest of information exposed by the NIC (Network Interface Card).
Functionality could be extended to wired NICs as well (Twisted-Pair or SFP), it will all depends on the development and effort involved to make this work.

I am not a developer but I know a little bit on how to read code and I am more than welcome to help in further testing and troubleshooting, in case this project comes to life at some point.

I suspect you are looking for something more user friendly, but you can accomplish what you what using this applet.

You'll need to make a scrip that makes use of the nmcli, ifconfig and/or iw tools to get the data you want.. Something like this maybe...

nmcli -f IN-USE,SSID,FREQ,CHAN,RATE,BANDWIDTH,SIGNAL,BARS dev wifi | grep "*"

In fact, the end goal is having something more user-friendly, with buttons and sliders and all those things people love to mess around with but this is a good idea to start.

I'll explore this and do my testing.
