Right now the common thing to do, double-clicking the column separator in the column header. Currently this resets/minimizes the column width instead of expanding to fit the content.
As a dev I jump around from Ubuntu, Red Hat, Windows and now the pi5 which seems to be the odd man out. I get that your going for a stripped down version but Auto-Fit is a very handy feature for longer directories and if it's a user, on demand action it shouldn't affect normal CPU.
