Provide an official FluentFTP PowerShell module and publish on PSGallery

It would be great if FluentFTP published an official PowerShell module on PSGallery with high-level commands.
Currently, we have to use Transferetto, which is not a module linked to the FluentFTP project and is not being actively developed (no new version for two years...).

Yes, but it's not a real module published on PSGallery. Using FluentFTP in PowerShell is therefore not very user-friendly, especially for administrators who are not developers. Publishing a module on PSGallery would also improve discoverability for your project.

I see your point and agree there is some merit in pursuing this.

Transferetto uses:

You can actually do

get-package -Name FluentFTP

and update that to current.

But I can see some issues and responses in the Tranferetto GitHub where "things seem to go in to a dead end, no more activity".

I suppose this could be improved and understand your desire for more.

Yes, Transferetto uses FluentFTP for FTP functionality and SSH.NET for SFTP.

I typically use Posh-SSH (which uses SSH.NET behind too) to connect via SFTP.

I was looking for a simple and effective library for basic FTP. I was very interested in your project, but using it in PowerShell was not as easy as I had hoped (no Import-Module Posh-FluentFTP).

So I fell back on Transferetto, but:

• Transferetto's maintenance and development is far behind your project (no new version in two years);
• paradoxically, Transferetto does too much and command conflicts can occur with Posh-SSH in SFTP.

There is clearly an opportunity to make your project the “go-to” solution for all FTP use in PowerShell.

Sadly, we can't just "take" it, fix it and continue under the umbrella of FluentFTP.

Because:

This disparity makes this a variant of the MIT license and very difficult to handle.

This means we would need to recode this thing from start.

Yes, I didn't expect you to patch Transferetto but provide your own module.
You could rely on the PowerShell scripts already available in the FluentFTP repository.

If - and I really mean if - one would start on this: Which minimum functions do you need? You would be the one testing anything or perhaps providing sample code that you are running against Transferetto.

I use Transferetto in a fairly basic way.
Here are the commands I use: Connect-FTP, Get-FTPList, Receive-FTPFile, Disconnect-FTP.
I really don't need low-level commands with lots of options.
