OpenBSD Contributor & Maintainer since 2010
Hi, I'm buzzdeee.
For over 15 years, I’ve been dedicated to the simple elegance and uncompromising security of OpenBSD. What began in 2010 with my first account and an interest in clean code has evolved into a deep passion for porting and maintaining software.
What I do (and why I’m here)
My focus is on keeping OpenBSD ready for both modern challenges and nostalgic treasures. I spend my free time at the command line working on:
- 🛡️ Security & Network Porting: I port software in the fields of network security, Incident Response, and DFIR (Digital Forensics) to ensure that security professionals on OpenBSD have the tools they need.
- 🔧 Port Maintenance: I serve as a MAINTAINER for various packages—fixing bugs, patching security vulnerabilities, and keeping dependencies clean.
- 🏛️ Legacy & Niche Software Love: I keep software alive that remains important to many but is often forgotten—from Rocrail and GNUstep environments to classic games.
- 💾 Open Source Contribution: Everything I do flows directly back into the repositories or is documented on my blog.
Why GitHub Sponsoring?
In the OpenBSD world, the rule is: "Shut up and hack." Your support helps me cover the hardware costs for build machines, fund porting projects, and justify the time spent testing obscure patches.
The Promise: No perks, no distractions. Just more commits, more stable ports, and more security tools for the best operating system in the world.
Thanks for the support – see you in the Git and CVS logs or on the mailing lists!
Reaching 10 sponsors is a huge milestone for me. It shows that there is a real demand for specialized security and DFIR tools, legacy software, and other random stuff I maintain on OpenBSD. This initial support helps cover the basic electricity and hardware costs for my 24/7 build and testing machines, ensuring that my ports stay stable and up-to-date.
