А ещё лучше убрать эту настройку, а условие заменить на такое: if (bme.begin(BME280_ADDRESS, &Wire) || bme.begin(BME280_ADDRESS_ALTERNATE, &Wire)) {В библиотеке уже эти переменные с адресом по-умолчанию и альтернативным адресом. |

У меня не заводился bme280 даже если менял адрес в файле библиотеки. В итоге решил проблему, почитав исходники и увидев, что в метод begin можно передать адрес устройства.
