slightly rough, but reimplements end-to-end auth. closes #23 #83.

CLI and auth looks good to me. Maybe let someone else review the API changes! (Or I could just approve)

@olliekm you should be good to work off of this branch for cli stuff if you want. API shouldn't change much on your end.
